Hennessy VSOP Privilege was created in 1818 at the request of the Prince of Wales, who later became King George IV of Great Britain. This cognac was the first to be designated as “Very Superior Old Pale,” setting a standard for the category. The Hennessy brand itself was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish immigrant, and has grown to become the largest cognac producer in the world.
